The members of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario ( CTCMPAO ) using single use disposable acupuncture needles sealed by manufacturer in sterile conditions. The needles are open just prior to use by the acupuncture practitioner. Because of this, the risk of infection is extremely low.
They are several conditions where the acupuncture has be used with caution:
– In patients that are pregnant ( during certain stages of pregnancy).
– Patients taking blood tiners or having bleeding disorder
– Patients having pacemakers ( No Electro-acupuncture, just
classical one ).
Two surveys conducted independently of each other and published in the British Medical Journal in 2001 concluded that the risk of serious adverse reaction to acupuncture is less than 1 in 10,000. This is far less than many orthodox medical treatments in UK and other countries.
